Process Scientist

Algenuity Ltd. is a globally recognised, UK-based algal biotechnology company that is producing exciting new microalgae ingredients by fermentation which meet the growing global demand for sustainably-produced plant-based protein, natural colours and other products. Simply put, we are “making algae work”.

Following the recent launch of our Chlorella Colours® chlorophyll-deficient microalgal ingredient for the food and personal care sector, we are seeking a Process Scientist to work alongside our pilot plant team to assist in the operation of our fed-batch heterotrophic process to produce food-grade product.

We are continuing to expand our proprietary Chlorella platform into new product applications, and so there is also an important R&D aspect to this role – focusing on scale-up and process optimisation of new variants. Consequently, you will have knowledge of process design, safety and pilot plant operations, this role would especially suit a recent graduate in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering with an interest in fermentation. We will provide all of the necessary training in the various unit operations and the opportunity to develop your experience with fermentation-based bioprocesses. Due to its practical nature, this work may require you to attend during some evenings and weekends.

This is a laboratory scientist-level position, reporting to the Process Development Manager. Your enthusiasm for the role is as important to us as your qualifications, and you will be an important part of the Algenuity story as we continue to grow and achieve success in the global food sector and beyond.

The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or similar experience
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Must possess good time-management and organisational abilities, with excellent documentation practices and attention to detail
  • Fluent in English – spoken and written
  • Full eligibility to live and work in the UK

This is a full-time staff position working at our dedicated site in Bedfordshire, within the United Kingdom’s Golden Triangle for Biotech.

We are offering a competitive salary, with generous company pension contribution and the opportunity for performance-related bonuses along with discretionary profit-sharing.

Applicants should submit a Curriculum Vitae and a cover letter outlining your suitability for the role. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.
