The Head of R&D will manage all aspects of the company’s lab-based research and development. They will be confident in directing all technical work according to MiAlgae’s strategic goals, ensuring that projects are successfully executed according to standard operating procedures and processes, in a safe and efficient manner. The role will lead on all activities relating to MiAlgae’s R&D lab, reporting directly to the Managing Director and working closely with other Heads of Departments. They will manage, mentor and develop a small team of laboratory assistants, PhD and MSc students, whilst liaising closely with the Lab Manager. The successful candidate will be required to attend frequent management group meetings and provide regular concise reports to inform the Executive Team, Board of Directors and potential investors.
This is a position within a dynamic start-up company and therefore combines discipline-specific knowledge with leadership and business skills to promote the efficiency, profitability and competitive position of the company. The successful applicant will be expected to work flexibly and will not be limited to a strict job description.

MiAlgae is a start-up microalgae production company which utilises circular economy (and nutrient recycling) to reduce manufacturing costs. The microalgal products generated are currently aimed at the agricultural feed industry. We are a green company and aim to contribute strongly towards the sustainability of the livestock feed sector. We are particularly interested in the aquaculture feed industry and the production of omega supplements for their feeds. MiAlgae is currently in the process of completing the R&D work required to commercialise their product. The successful candidate will operate in a complex working environment with multiple stakeholders, competing priorities and limited resources.
